This song has been a blast to see evolve over the years. It started as a writing exercise for myself as almost everything I write is from my perspective, experience and real life and not based on an existing narrative. Empire Records changed that. Like any great art it moved me and inspired me for some reason I can’t explain but most interestingly I believe this song directly led to the formation of Our Last Summer in the first place.
Before we became a band an old group I was with would play shows with Matt P’s band at the time and he was particularly fond of this song. After that it was “Say No More, Mon Amore.” This helped start our musical kinship in earnest and now 20 years later we have a pretty fantastic recording of the song that started everything.
But we mustn’t dwell. No, not today. We can’t. Not on Rex Manning Day.
